The Still Hopes Legacy

Shortly after the turn of the nineteenth century, John Gabriel Guignard established a home place on these peaceful grounds. The land survived the Civil War and in 1910, Aleck Guignard built the elegant Victorian home that continues to serve as the centerpiece of life at Still Hopes. Dr. Jane Bruce Guignard bequeathed the house and 39 acres to Trinity Episcopal Church some 48 years later. Her belief was that the home could serve a greater purpose by providing care for a senior population.

Under the joint sponsorship of the Episcopal Dioceses of South Carolina and Upper South Carolina and under the leadership of a dedicated Board of Trustees, Still Hopes became a non-profit retirement community in 1977. Since then, the community has expanded numerous times to meet the changing needs of its residents.
